Apartments, offices and shops are proposed for several vacant lots along South Main Street in Davidson, where the car wash and Alexander trucking used to be. It’s across from South Main Square.

A Cornelius town planning official tells me it's not related to the 290-unit residential project called "Caroline." The Cornelius Town Board approved the project back in September 2021. It hasn't started and doesn't have any of its permits yet. Developer Proffitt Dixon Partners plans 180 multi-family units for "active older adults" as well as 110 unrestricted multi-family units. The 16 acres are just north of the Antiquity covered bridge off South Street and adjacent to another project, Greenway Gartens. That residential and commercial project also was approved in 2021 and includes a now cleared wooded area and the former Curtis Screw factory. It calls for an Olde Mecklenburg brewery/restaurant and other commercial buildings as well as about 350 apartments and townhomes. The developers will build a new connector road between Zion Street and South Street to handle traffic. Spotted on my Friday #morningwalk: Business mascots in holiday finery. Also, last photo: Tree clearing has begun for a residential development off South Street near the Antiquity Cornelius Greenway.
