For my Davidson friends: On Saturday we say farewell to Wilson Sadler, who has been part of the backbone of Davidson forever, it seems. Longtime residents know him well. If you're relatively new to town, read up on him. He was an Eagle Scout, Army Reserve colonel, fire chief, and church leader - and man of few words. His selfless service is what our town has been all about. Condolences to Suzanne and the whole family. https://www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com/obituaries/wilson-sadler/obituary Morning run, millipede and other sights on the Friday #morningwalk I was so curious when I drove past this drone parking lot this morning behind Northcross Shopping Center I had to investigate. A man was sitting in front of a laptop at a table under a four-post tent. He was eager to tell me all about it. It's the latest expansion location of the aerial food delivery partnership between DoorDash and drone company Wing. If you live within a few miles of the shopping center off I-77 Exit 25, you may be able to get your dinner by drone. So Jetsons, eh? When you order from local restaurants on the DoorDash app, look for the drone symbol. A drone courier picks up orders and delivers them to the drone airport. The Wing manager then loads drones for delivery. He told me it's only available from restaurants within a mile or so of NorthCross, basically over to Birkdale Village. I checked the app and it looks like most deliveries take about 30 minutes. Most are fast food - from Burger King and Chipotle to Chopt and Sweetgreen to Panera and Cava. But more upscale places are there, too, including eeZ Sushi and Fin & Fino, both at Birkdale. (You'll need a suitable landing area for the drop.) Is this planet friendly? Maybe. An electric-powered drone can translate to far less carbon emissions than delivery drivers' cars. And fewer cars on the road could help traffic in the congested Lane Norman area. But will it succeed and is it a sustainable business, or just a fad? We'll want to keep an eye on this. As of 2pm, the road was still closed from the intersection with Lorimer Road, near the Village Green, east to College Drive.
