Just before #sunrise at the soccer field. Good morning! #morningwalk Two days' worth of #morningwalk pix. Mark Twain has quite a view during spooky season. Pix from Cornelius and Davidson routes. At Davidson College Tuesday night, journalists M. Gessen and Elena Kostyuchenko warned of the many parallels between totalitarianism in Russia and Donald Trump's totalitarian movement in the United States. The Russian American Gessen won the 2026 Pulitzer prize for opinion writing for their New York Times essays on authoritarianism around the world. Kostyuchenko is an exiled Russian journalist and the 2026 Batten Visiting Professor at Davidson. Drawing on her experience in Russia, Kostyuchenko said authoritarianism advances slowly. We sneaked around the barrier for a look on the Sunday #morningwalk Harvest #moon over the stadium during tonight's Charlotte FC vs Chicago match. Friday #morningwalk At @mainstreetbooksdavidson tonight listening to Karen Garloch @garlochk read and talk about writing her award-winning first novel "Stray Voltage." The story was inspired by, among other things, her upbringing on a farm in Indiana and a story she heard from a farmer friend about the unexplained deaths of dairy cows. Our fellow former Charlotte Observer colleague Pam Kelley asked the questions. Congrats Karen. Can't wait to read it.
