Davidson Police Chief Jeanne Miller announced that she will retire as the police chief for the Town of Davidson by June 30, 2017. She has served our town for over 11 years.
“Since Leamon Brice hired me in November of 2005, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Davidson beyond compare,” said Police Chief Jeanne Miller.
“You have taught me the true meaning of community. I’ve had the honor of working with the finest officers any police department in any town—large or small, urban or rural—could employ. I believe we are leaving the department better than it was in 2005. I am also convinced that the current staff can, and will, make great strides to become even better—as individual law enforcement officers and as an agency overall.”
Jeanne Miller has been chief of the Davidson Police Department since November 2005. She entered the field of law enforcement on October 8, 1973 as a member of the Detroit (MI) Police Department where she worked until December 1991, rising through the ranks to Lieutenant. Among her assignments with the Detroit Police Department, Jeanne worked the youth, gang squad, narcotics, internal affairs and the major crimes divisions. She then worked as assistant chief of operations for the Peoria (IL) Police Department from 1992 to 1994 and spent 11 years as the chief of the Reynoldsburg (OH) Police Department.
“We are grateful for Jeanne’s service to the Davidson Police Department and town,” said Town Manager Jamie Justice. “Under her leadership, the department was certified by CALEA (the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies), verifying that it meets the commission’s professional standards. She improved public safety services, increased the department’s commitment to community policing, was a pioneer in the North Carolina League of Municipalities’ first law enforcement risk review process, served on many panels representing the town and the law enforcement profession, and helped grow the department to meet the needs of our citizens and community. We have some big shoes to fill.”
The Town of Davidson has selected a recruiting consultant, U.S. Investigative Security Services (ISS), Inc., based in Huntersville, that specializes in law enforcement pre-employment screening services. They are ready to begin the search for her replacement on December 14. They will begin meetings with stakeholders in January and will start soliciting for candidates in February. There will be an opportunity for citizens to be involved in the process. The plan is to have a new police chief in place in May, 2017.
